COURSE CONTENT:
Science is a core curriculum subject that has become more and more important in the modern world. The skills and understanding of science, as well as an appreciation of its contribution to the way in which we live, forms a major part of the new syllabus’s taught in schools.

TRIPLE SCIENCE  (Separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
This course will be offered to our top sets in year 10. Entry is based on test results and teacher recommendation. 2 Year Course: 12 periods per 2 week cycle.

ASSESSMENT:
3 separate 1 hour Exams  for each subject in May/June of year 11. (These will be on 2 separate days the first exam taken on its own and the second and third exams taken one after the other on a subsequent day) 75% of  mark

Coursework
Each subject will have a single piece of coursework completed within a block of lessons during the course, involving some research, practical and examination tasks.25% of  mark

CORE SCIENCE (1 GCSE)1 year course: 10 periods per 2 week cycle.

ASSESSMENT:
3 separate 1 hour Exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics Each subject will have a 1 hour exam to sit in year 10. 75% of  mark

Coursework
1 piece from any discipline. 25% of mark

Single GCSE, Core Science grade awarded.

This is a full science course that provides a background into science and introduces ideas about science in the modern world. The GCSE will be finished by the end of year 10 and the first science GCSE grade will be awarded (you are no-longer able to do re-sits).

 ADDITIONAL SCIENCE – 1 year course 10 periods per 2 week cycle

ASSESSMENT:

Coursework
1 piece from any discipline. 25% of mark

This expands on many of the ideas introduced in core science and will provide the students with a second GCSE in science entirely separate to their first core science GCSE. Students will be able to progress to an A level in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Applied Science depending on attainment levels at the end of year 11
